Online Databases- OCLC Will Use Virtua ILS
VTLS to license source code to enhance WorldCat database
By Michael Rogers -- Library Journal, 05/01/2002
OCLC and VTLS have signed a licensing agreement that will see the source code of the vendor's Virtua ILS product be used to expand the WorldCat database. Lynn Keller, OCLC product manager for WorldCat, said that VTLS's development in areas such as Unicode and Z39.50 will help "to accelerate construction of fundamental pieces of the extended WorldCat database." VTLS President Vinod Chachra will assist as a design consultant and work closely with the WorldCat design team. Chachra has been a consultant to OCLC since November 2000 and has already executed database performance evaluation for OCLC.
