While public libraries have a history of providing resources to small business entrepreneurs and people in various stages of their careers and job searches, the New York Public Library (NYPL), with the help of Vault.com, is going one step further. The library will present “Back to Work: Jumpstart Your Job Search,” a free event aimed to help laid-off professionals not only with career information but also with personalized advice, including 20-minute “speed coaching” sessions from more than 20 Vault.com career coaches.
The event will be held January 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at NYPL’s Science, Industry and Business Library. The workshops, which will take place on a rotating schedule from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., include Q&A With Recruiters: Get Noticed, Networking into the Hidden Job Market, and Using Your Online Career Library.
Registration for the Vault “Speed Coaching” sessions is recommended, with attendees asked to e-mail backtowork@vault.com with their time preference(s); time slots are available every half hour between 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Like other libraries, NYPL also provides career counseling, resume writing workshops, job databases, and computer classes and other job readiness programs at its branches. “New Yorkers are facing a difficult time during this economic crisis, and many have found their way to The New York Public Library to take advantage of the countless free job resources we have available to our patrons,” said John Ganly, Assistant Director for Science, Industry and Business Library Collections.
