Jul 15, 2011Laura Bramble, CEO, Indianapolis–Marion County Public Library, for the past four years, preceded by a year as Interim CEO, has announced her retirement. She has been with the library system for 19 years. A national search is under way to hire her successor by November.
Irene Briggs has joined the Baltimore County Public Library, Towson, MD, as Director for Public Services. She previously was Associate Director of Public Services, Prince George’s County Memorial Library System, Hyattsville, MD.
Karen Calhoun, Vice President of Metadata Applications, OCLC, has retired. She worked at OCLC from 1986 to 1997 and again from 2007 to the present after being at Cornell University Library for ten years as Senior Associate University Librarian for Information Technology and Technical Services. This month, she will begin a part-time gig at the University Library System, University of Pittsburgh.
Holly Camino is the new Branch Manager, Buckeye Library, Medina County District Library, OH. She previously was Adult Acquisitions Librarian.
Diane Courtney, Director, Larchmont Public Library, NY, since 1995, is retiring this month. During her tenure, some 36 building projects were completed, including a $3.2 million children’s room renovation.
Ann Dixon is the new Homer Public Librarian, directing the Homer Public Library, AK. She replaces the retiring Helen Hill. The author of several children’s books, Dixon most recently was Librarian, Willow Public Library, AK.
Ava Ehde has been promoted to Manager, Manatee County Public Library System (MCPLS), Bradenton, FL, with responsibility for five libraries. Ehde previously was Supervisor, Island Branch Library, Holmes Beach, at MCPLS.
Gary Fraser is the new Director, Lima Public Library, OH, replacing the retiring Scott Shafer. He previously was the library’s System Administrator.
Elizabeth Garcia is the new Manager, West Lawn Branch, Chicago Public Library (CPL). Garcia began her CPL career as a page in 1998 and received her MLS in 2005. She most recently was Adult Librarian, Garfield Ridge Branch.
Nina Hull has been named Community Library Manager, Agoura Hills Library, County of Los Angeles Public Library. She previously worked at the system’s Westlake Village Library.
Mary Jean Jakubowski will be the new Director, Buffalo & Erie County Public Library. She currently is the library system’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) and has held a variety of positions since 1992. She also is President of the Western New York Library Resources Council. She replaces Bridget Quinn-Carey , who became COO, Queens Library, Jamaica, NY, earlier this year. The two other finalists were Jeffrey Cannell, Deputy Commissioner, Office for Cultural Education, New York State Education Department, and Acting State Librarian, and Luren Dickinson, Director, Shaker Heights Public Library, OH.
Susan Nevelow Mart has been named Director, William A. Wise Law Library, University of Colorado Law School, Boulder. Mart was Faculty Services Librarian, University of California Hastings College of Law, San Francisco, where she was also an Adjunct Professor teaching advanced legal research.
Richard Mott is now Manager of Strategic Initiatives, Jacksonville Public Library, FL. He was Training Manager.
Anne Mundy, Head of the Children’s Department, Bangor Public Library, ME, retired June 1 after 30 years of service.
Anne Neal, Librarian, Auberry Branch Library, Fresno County Public Library, CA, has announced her retirement. She started her career at the branch in 1973.
