Mar 1, 2011Mary Alice Baish has been named Assistant Public Printer, Superintendent of Documents, for the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO). Baish will oversee GPO’s Library Services & Content Management unit, Publication & Information Sales unit, and the management of GPO’s Federal Digital System. She previously served as Director of Government Relations, American Association of Law Libraries. Baish has an MLIS from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ.
Roberta Bibbins has been named Director, Orangeburg County Library System, SC, replacing longtime director Paula Paul, who recently retired. Bibbins previously was formerly Media Coordinator, New Hanover County Schools, NC.
Valeda Frances Dent was appointed Dean of University Libraries, Long Island University (LIU), Brookville, NY, effective October 18, 2010. Dent was previously Associate University Librarian for Research and Instructional Services, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ. She replaced the retiring Donald Ungarelli, who devoted nearly 50 years of service to LIU.
Kathleen Henry is the new Director, Union County Carnegie Library, SC, which was named LJ’s 2009 Best Small Library in America. She most recently was Director, Shelter Island Public Library, NY.
Jeanne Kelley is the new Director, Framingham Public Library, MA. She has served as Interim Director since August 2010 and was Assistant Director for the past six years. She replaces Mark Contois, who is now Director, Worcester Public Library, MA.
William Martino will succeed the retiring Arlene Radden as Director, Holmes County District Public Library, Millersburg, OH.
Nadine Mitchell has retired as Chief Librarian, Lynn Public Library, MA, effective January 31. She worked at the library as a page in high school and became a librarian in 1986. Mitchell assumed her current position in 2003 and was instrumental in getting the library recertified by the state after three branch closings.
John Myles was sworn in January 27 as a member of the five-person State Library Board, State Library of Ohio. He has served as a Library Media Specialist, Liberty Center Local Schools, since 1976 and plans to retire in May.
Ellen Derey Safley has been named Director, Eugene McDermott Library, University of Texas (UT) at Dallas, effective December 1, 2010. Safley joined UT-Dallas in 1983 and most recently was Senior Associate Director.
