Sep 1, 2010Karl Aromaa has retired as Director of the Rumford Public Library, ME, after holding the job for almost three decades. Luke E. Sorensen is the new Director.
Terry Birdwhistell has been named Dean of Libraries, University of Kentucky, Lexington. He was Associate Dean for Special Collections and Digital Programs and Codirector of the Wendell Ford Public Policy Research Center.
Mark Contois is the new Director of the Worcester Public Library, MA; he directed the Framingham Public Library, MA.
J. Donald Craig, Dean of the James E. Walker Library at Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro, has retired after 38 years of service and 16 years as Dean.
Patti Hanley now directs the Buena Park Library District, CA. She most recently headed the Banning Library District, CA. She replaced the retiring Louise Mazerov.
Ann-Louise Harries, Director of the Hyannis Public Library, MA, has retired after 38 years of service. Reference Librarian Carol Saunders is Interim Director.
Ken Haycock, former Professor and Director of the San José School of Library and Information Science (LIS), CA, has been appointed to the Follett Chair in LIS at Dominican University, River Forest, IL.
Marcia Schneider, San Francisco Public Library’s Chief of Communications and Adult Services, has retired after 21 years of service.
Pam Sessoms is the new Undergraduate Librarian in the R.B. House Undergraduate Library at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill. She has served since August 2009 as Interim Head of the Undergraduate Library; she was a 2009 Library Journal Mover & Shaker.
Jan Walsh, Washington State Librarian, has retired. Before being appointed State Librarian in 2002, she worked in the State Library as Assistant Director for Customer Service from 1997.
Donald Westmoreland is Director of the St. Tammany Parish Library, Mandeville, LA. He has been Interim Director since September 2009.
Richard Wilding has retired after four years as Director of the Mid-Continent Public Library, Independence, MO; he served 19 years at the library. Steven Potter, formerly Assistant Director of Libraries, is the new Director. Susan Wray, formerly the Blue Springs North Branch Manager, has replaced Potter.
