Editor's NoteWhile the Newswire was off last week, Google Book Search settlement commentator James Grimmelman issued a short and sweet open letter, linking the settlement to the recent Google/Verizon net neutrality proposal: "When you say that Google is committed to orphan works legislation, is that in the same way it's committed to network neutrality? ... I hope you understand why your CEO has created a credibility problem for you, and will explain the matter to him at your earliest convenience." In other Google ebook territory, Google Editions, supposed to launch in June or July, now won't launch until Fall. The Newswire will be on hiatus again next week, resuming its normal schedule for the Fall semester on September 2. Until then, enjoy the stories and columns below.—Josh Hadro, Editor, Academic Newswire |
