Shanachie Tour: a library road trip across America

Introducing the Shanachies of the library world: Erik Boekesteijn and Jaap van de Geer. They work at a DOK, Delft Public Library and they are rock stars.
Last year, they left houses, family and jobs to drive across America to interview librarians. “The real motivation for the tour was based on earlier travels and a genuine concern about the future of libraries,” said Erik. Tribal Libraries have joined the technology revolution and have established a presence on the World Wide Web via blogs. On these, librarians connect with the community and share information about laws that might affect their users and news of interest to all. Libraries are truly the heart of the community and librarians embrace their social role within the communities they serve. Libraries also link to their catalogs, calendars, special collections and services.

The REFORMA National Conference III is quickly approaching. Next week from September 18-21 librarians serving Latinos and the Spanish speaking meet in El Paso to discuss ideas on how to continue providing access to information to this population.
