October 17, 2008 The American Library Association and Spanish-language broadcasting colossus Univision have launched en tu biblioteca, a site with some slick promotional materials that you can download and use to get the word out about your library.
Bookmarks, flyers, and Web banners on this page are yours to customize—there are instructions for how to do that—as well as the 15- and 30- second radio spots that you can put on your website or telephone system. They are airing in major Spanish-language markets, but "should not," we are told, "be played on other, non-Univision Radio stations."
The site also has pages with short explanations in Spanish of various library services. Most of them link to a tool that will purportedly find the library nearest you. But Thomas Dowling's Libweb directory, wonderful as it is, is far from comprehensive: it lacks the two libraries in my town, and the four libraries in the one I just moved from. (Heads up to ALA: Googling library and the names of those cities finds 'em right off the bat.)
