Queens Library Spanish Language Subject Headings
March 20, 2008
The Library of Congress has approved a code for the new Queens Library Spanish Language Subject Headings from Queens Borough Public Library (Queens Library), effective yesterday, March 19, 2008.
This is great news! It finally happened. We may continue ordering books from distributors who do not offer catalogued-ready materials.
For years I’ve heard how libraries cut businesses with distributors who did not offer books with bibliographic records. Even though these distributors provided many original titles from Latin America and the shipping was done almost immediately…
The new Subject Headings should help libraries to catalog their titles in Spanish in an easier and faster way than what we’ve been used to. There is a real possibility that librarians do not have to endure long waiting times or endless phone calls to find out when their books will be catalogued… or when their materials purchased from distributors providing prepared books, will arrive.
This represents a major step to continue providing original works from Spanish-speaking countries to meet the needs of our Latino customers.
