Libraries: Partnering to Help Reduce Health Disparities in our Communities
June 2, 2008
Would you like to increase library services for medically underserved populations in your community?
If so, I have the perfect program for you at ALA-Anaheim:
Partnering to Help Reduce Health
Disparities in our Communities
6/30/2008 Monday 01:30 pm - 03:30 pm DIS Magic Kingdom 3
Academic and Public librarians will discuss their roles in partnering with the
National Library of Medicine, other National, Regional and Local health
organizations to advance strategies to address health disparities. Learn
how large and small libraries bridge the gap between underserved
populations, health information and medical services. At then end of the
program librarians will know about outreach strategies and real-life
successful partnership examples to connect libraries with health
institutions. Participants will be able to identify healthcare partners
to combine with outreach to better deliver health information,
screenings and much more.
Speakers:
*Cassandra Allen, Outreach Librarian, Outreach and Special Populations Branch, National Library of Medicine (Overview of medically underserved communities in the USA)
*Siobhan Champ-Blackwell Community Outreach Liaison
National Network of Libraries of Medicine, MidContinental Region
Creighton University Health Sciences Library (Partnerships with various types of libraries)
*Annabelle Nunez, Arizona Health Sciences Library
(Academic Libraries)
*Loida Garcia-Febo, Assistant Coordinator of Special Services at Queens Library (Public Libraries)
