The undocumented - who needs 'em?
Steve Bizzell, the North Carolina sheriff who went on record to comment that Mexican immigrants in the US "breed like rabbits"—words that, despite the lawman's presumably pro-family orientation, were not intended as complimentary—will surely be pleased by the news from California that more than 1,000 undocumented people have been caught up in the past three weeks in one of the most ambitious series of immigration sweeps ever.
If you'll grant me that speeders, jaywalkers, and double-parkers are all lawbreakers, I will return the favor and grant you that people without proper visas are breaking the law, too, so you won't need to bother to leave a comment. Use the time you save to Instead read an interesting front-page Houston Chronicle article about the aftermath of Hurricane Ike: "Cleanup spurs labor need: Undocumented workers will be linchpin in efforts."
D'ya reckon ICE will be sweeping through storm-torn communities? Easy pickings! But maybe they won't do that. Sometimes, even pesky rabbits just look so darn cute.
