Translating Oscar Wao: Diaz and Obejas at Americas Society
For those of you in the New York area tonight, I wouldn't miss this event if I were you....
Book Presentation: La breve y maravillosa vida de Óscar Wao
Friday, October 17, 2008
7:00 p.m.
Americas Society
680 Park Avenue
New York, NY

Translating Oscar: Obejas and Diaz
*In Spanish with simultaneous interpretation in English*
Please note that, because of the popularity of the Junot Díaz event on October 17th, we will be placing the names of all new registrants on a waiting list.
Following the enormous critical and popular success of Junot Díaz’s first novel, The Brief Wondrous Life of Óscar Wao, for which the Dominican-American writer was awarded the Pulitzer Prize, Americas Society and Vintage Español are pleased to present a program celebrating the Spanish-language version of Díaz´s lauded book. La breve y maravillosa vida de Óscar Wao has been translated by acclaimed Cuban-American fiction writer and poet Achy Obejas. In this much-anticipated event, Obejas will interview the author about his book and his creative process. The novel recounts the cursed family history and failed attempts at love of Óscar de León, an overweight, dorky comic-book fiend who comes of age in New Jersey. Díaz is also the author of the award-winning Drown and is a professor at MIT. He lives in Boston and New York City.
This event is free and open to the public.
Please note that, because of the popularity of the Junot Díaz event on October 17th, we will be placing the names of all new registrants on a waiting list.
For reservations, call 212-277-8359 or email culture@americas-society.org
In collaboration with the Dominican Studies Institute, CUNY; and the Cuban Cultural Center of New York.
