De Acevedo, a Colombian psychologist specializing in children and parenting, wrote these brief articles on parenting in 2000. This new edition will help parents with the common problems that they face as their children grow. Beginning by reassuring parents that they will make mistakes sometimes but will learn from them, the author provides simple, practical advice about raising children. De Avecedo offers reflections on parenting, explaining the importance of the family, the responsibility of raising children, and the child’s need for love and stability. She also discusses developmental stages, discipline, and issues such as divorce, sexuality, and the only child. A list of “what children want from their parents” at the end of the book serves as good reference. Throughout, the author’s tone is supportive and reassuring; a good addition to parenting collections in public libraries.
