REVIEW WITH:

Norling, Beth.
Los hermanitos son…
(Little Brothers Are…)
illus. by author. U.S.: Kane Miller (Toddler Tales). 2008. unpaged. ISBN 978-1-933605-92-0. $4.99.

PreS-Gr 1–For anyone who grew up with a younger sibling, these titles will be a sweet reminder of childhood. Using one or two words on each page, the traits of little brothers and sisters are described from the point of view of the older child. Words such as sleepy, dreadful, and affectionate depict little brothers, and little sisters are said to be stinky, loud, and funny. Both titles end by stating that the younger family member is the older siblings’ best friend. The adorable illustrations add to the sweet nature of the books, but are comical enough to keep them from becoming saccharine. The expressions on the faces of the older brother and sister say it all. Simple but effective. Highly recommended for all libraries and bookstores.
