Gr 3+–This inspirational biography of the racecar driver Milka Duno tells the story of her ambition to become the first Latina to participate in the Indy 500. Milka was a playful and mischievous child, but she always knew the importance of an education. She constantly read throughout her childhood and was valedictorian of her graduating class. Later, she earned a degree in naval engineering and four master’s degrees, so when her parents learned that she wanted to become a professional car racer, they advised her against it. But Milka had too much of a competing spirit to let herself be deterred from her goal and is now one of the best female car racers in the world. ¡Corre, Milka, Corre! shows how she accomplished her goals with determination, hard work, discipline, and perseverance. The back of the book lists all her awards in the professional car racing world. The bold and vivid illustrations in an anime style will delight young readers. Recommended for all public and elementary school libraries.
