This pregnancy guide by health educator Stewart covers the basics of pregnancy, birth, newborn care, and child safety in a format that is easy to understand. New to this edition is information about elective Cesarean sections and avoiding unnecessary use of the procedure, advice about how to stop smoking, the latest nutrition information, the most current information about the use of seatbelts for pregnant women and car seats for infants, and information about preventing sudden infant death syndrome. The book also has useful information about exercise for pregnant women, prenatal and well baby care, labor and delivery, breastfeeding, bottle feeding, and the role of the baby’s father. Illustrations, a glossary, and a resource list supplement the text. One caveat for librarians is the inclusion of forms for readers to fill in with information about prenatal visits, questions for healthcare practitioners, and personal notes. This is a very good basic source for public and consumer health libraries.
