K-Gr 2–This first dictionary provides simple definitions of basic words like casa (house) and piso (floor), as well as the definitions of related words. The fact that the dictionary gives definitions of synonyms and related words will help younger readers understand that different words can have similar meanings and can be closely related. This may lead them to discover that another word could work better for what they want. While each definition in itself is fairly short, the entry also provides a sentence that illustrates the meaning and provides a context. While there are no photographs or charts, the cartoonlike illustrations, bright and fun, succeed at clarifying the words. More than just a picture dictionary, this is a nice fit for most Spanish collections in school and public libraries.
