K-Gr 2-Part of the Science Solves It series, these simple stories show how young children can use science in their everyday lives. In the first title, Jenny sees that a colony of ants has discovered her secret stash of sweets. After finding a book about nature and reading about ants, the youngster tries several things, from moving her treats to a higher shelf to tempting the insects with other foods. She finally comes up with a solution on her own. In It Came from Outer Space, three boys are camping out in the backyard when they see something fall from the sky. The next day they search and finally find it. The end is a little too neat but, again, this story shows the main characters using what they know about science to solve the mystery. The fun cartoonlike illustrations and the use of science to find solutions make these simple stories worthy purchases for school and public libraries.
