K+–It will be a Christmas without presents. Papa Bear is out of work and there is only enough money for food. He builds the three children a tree out of gathered branches and dusts the boughs with flour to make it look like snow. Mama Bear makes a delicious fish dinner, and everyone goes off to bed silently. Yet something surprising happens on Christmas morning. Everyone is amazed to find that some of their precious lost and damaged items have been repaired and wrapped: the button of mom’s favorite dress, dad’s hat, older brother’s kite, sister’s umbrella, and Little Bear’s baseball glove. Were it not for the telltale footprints under the tree, the family members would not have a clue that Little Bear had been secretly working to give them a Merry Christmas. This heartwarming story is perfectly paired with the serene illustrations done in subdued colors that perfectly convey its simple message. A great gift book; this title belongs in every public library that serves Spanish-speaking children.
