PreS+–Nurse, taxi driver, coach, horse, cook…. The list of the many roles a dad takes on is endless. This book features 33 of them, one per page, each role accompanied by a whimsical, cartoonish watercolor-and-pencil illustration. Some entries are funny, for example, “23. abridor” (opener) features a red-faced dad trying very hard to open a jar of marmelade, his proud son looking up; others are realistic, such as, “14. despertador” (alarm clock), which shows a dad shouting desperately at his sleepy son in bed; and others are sweet, as in “33. amigo” (friend), where a son and dad embrace. The effortless combination of text (which is a mere list) and illustrations gives children enough room to chime in during storytime and inform the class about “the time when my dad….” This title is meant to spark conversations and funny anecdotes from children. More importantly, it will give them 33 reasons to go hug and kiss their dads!
