Gr 4+–It is 2075, and two siblings take it upon themselves to save the planet from human-caused ecological disasters. Inquisitive and earth-conscious, 10-year-old Sheila and her 12-year-old brother, Said, always take action when they feel that something is wrong. Together they battle an agricultural plague, fight the deforestation of the Amazon, prevent an oil spill, avert a nuclear disaster, and stop a dangerous disease from spreading. In the process, they must travel around the world, from the frozen regions of Antarctica to the tropical heat of the Caribbean. To save the future, the kids transmit their experiences to youngsters living in the past by using a powerful information web. This volume comprises six different and equally engaging adventures. Brother and sister take turns narrating the chapters of each story, infusing the text with the dynamic energy of their distinct voices. Forty black-and-white ink-and-wash illustrations set the mood of the adventures. A great choice for newly confident readers transitioning to more challenging chapter books, this volume is recommended for public and middle school libraries.
