PreS-Gr 2–Jeffers’s gentle, heartwarming story uses simple, effective language and gorgeous, modern-looking, full-page illustrations. By virtue of following their playful, carefree hearts, a boy and a young Martian find themselves stranded on the Moon, both their vehicles in need of repair. The two youngsters come to an agreement and devise a plan that will get them out of trouble and back to their respective homes safely. Without much fuss, the little boy from Earth simply jumps back from the moon into the sea, swims to his house, gets a wrench, some batteries for his flashlight, and, after catching up with the latest episode of his favorite TV show, climbs a mountain and scales a rope that the little Martian has dropped for him. The simplicity of the story highlights the extraordinary of everyday life and, thus, reminds readers of the magic in the little things around them. A fine translation that echoes the rhythm of the original, this picture book about cooperation and teamwork is likely to become a favorite of young children.
