PreS-K–In this simple story about friendship and teamwork, Ruben strolls through the dark forest wearing bright red pyjamas and matching slippers. (Why the youngster is in the forest at night is not explained.) Frightened by an owl, he hides inside a hollow tree. From there he spots a wolf sitting next to a fire. After a big growl, a tiger appears, and the wolf runs to hide. The tiger is enjoying the fire when an alligator comes along and frightens him away. In the hollow of the tree, Ruben finds a door and a staircase that leads him to the home of a friendly rabbit that offers to help him get back home. Together they fool the three ferocious animals by disguising themselves as a scary monster. They safely reach Ruben’s home and have hot chocolate to celebrate their victory. The cartoon-like illustrations use bright colors against a mostly black background. Recommended for elementary school and public libraries.
