K-Gr 3–Employing simple texts along with maps and brightly colored photographs, these titles introduce beginning readers to general concepts about the geography of Earth and to specific aspects of the topography and culture of each continent. Pages generally contain one main paragraph of several sentences and cover such topics as geographic features, climate, wildlife, and tourist attractions. The volumes also address the differences between urban and rural dwellers as well as natural resources and variations in plant life. Each title begins with a discussion of important terms such as oceans, seas, continents, countries, borders, the equator and the four cardinal directions. While such repetition from book to book may seem redundant to those exploring more than one title, it undoubtedly serves readers who dip into only one. Overall, the books provide clear definitions of unfamiliar terms, close links between illustrations and text, and comprehensive captions for photographs. Ideal for school and public libraries, and for large bookstores.
