A picture may be worth 1000 words, but they can be difficult to express. This collection is a satisfying experiment that features contemporary Mexican writers on contemporary Mexican photographers. The small books (22 x 22 cm) combines the intimacy of a child's storybook with the intellectual rigor and complexity of a larger sized coffee-table art book. The simplicity of their format allows the reader to contemplate fully the power of images and text. Field of Pain brings readers dizzyingly close to the spiritual ecstasy and hardships of the yearly pilgrimage to the sanctuary of the Child Fidencio. Color of Time dwells in the rich, saturated hues of Mexico with a childlike awe. Present in Body pushes viewers to face discomfort, disgust, and the limitations of the body. Highly recommended for bookstores and libraries with a contemporary arts and photography focus.
