TunelesGordon, Roderick.
tr. by Adolfo Muñoz. illus. by Brian Williams. Spain: Urano. 2007. 444 p. ISBN 978-84-96886-03-2. pap. $19.95.

Gr  5-9–Will and his dad have one thing in common: their love for digging and excavation. They work together on numerous projects around town until, one day, the father mysteriously disappears. The youngster and his friend Chester decide to investigate and, following clues left behind, are led down into an underground world: The Colony. Trapped in a very dangerous place, the two friends must find a way to save themselves and others from the cruel ruling class, the Styx. This is where the plot really takes off. In doing so, several characters introduced in the beginning seem to be forgotten only to briefly come back later. That issue aside, the characters Will meets in The Colony, both good and evil ones, are colorful and interesting. This is the first volume in a planned series, and fantasy fans be looking forward to the sequel. The translation is well done and easy to follow. Recommended for larger Spanish collections.
