Macías is a unique individual who has already accomplished some of life’s major goals in an extraordinary way. Here she shares her philosophy of life and message of hope and inspiration to everyone living with or without a disability. Born without arms, she learned from the age of two to use her feet to carry out life’s daily activities. She was fitted with artificial arms, but even as she was going through many years of therapy to learn to use her artificial limbs, Macías was gradually and very determinedly learning to eat, play, dress herself, and even remove her artificial arms with her feet. As she learned to live with her disability, she developed not only extraordinary flexibility and control over her physical body but an indomitable spirit and positive mental attitude. With the unfailing support and love of her parents and sister, Macías earned a law degree and a Masters in Human Resource Administration and has become a passionate and articulate advocate for the disabled in Mexico and throughout the world. Woven throughout the book is her unwavering belief that a positive attitude and determination are the true paths to a fulfilling and successful life. People with disabilities will be inspired by Macías’s story, and family and friends will find helpful suggestions and encouragement for the vital role they can play to help disabled persons achieve independence and happiness. Highly recommended for public, academic, and special libraries serving disabled communities, as well as all bookstores.—Yolanda J.
