Morales, Hada María.U.S.: Grupo Nelson: Thomas Nelson. 2007. 127p. ISBN 978-0-89922-023-9. pap. $11.99. SELF-HELP
In this brief and practical book, Morales (Vístete para triunfar) tells readers how to decide whether to find a job (and how to get it) or to go to work for oneself. Anchoring her advice in her Christian belief, the author refers to Scripture and morals throughout. The book is divided into three sections. The first offers very basic information in 17 short chapters. Chapter 14 was especially helpful for helping Hispanic professionals in the United States get that great first job with seven suggestions. Part 2 includes tips on how to write a résumé, what to expect during interviews, and how to sail through them. In the final section, Morales discusses whether self-employment is for everyone and how readers can tell whether it is right for them. In the epilog, the author shares her success story. Her casual approach will appeal to readers and keep them engaged; her personal story will gain their respect. Recommended for libraries and bookstores serving Spanish speakers interested in landing that first job.—Bianca Elliott, Lansing H.S., KS
