K-Gr 2–The considerate characters of these volumes show young readers how to behave. Each book introduces the topic with a definition of the title and a series of examples acted out by the young protagonists. A repeated phrase reinforces the concept. Thus, in Being Fair, children line up one-by-one to get a drink at the water fountain. The repeated phrase explains, “In this way, they demonstrate how to be fair.” In Being a Good Citizen, Silvia picks up the trash and puts it in the trash can even though she didn’t throw it. The text reads, “In this way, she demonstrates how to be a good citizen.” The bold and bright watercolor illustrations are appealing, with figures and objects lined in black.—Veronica Covington, Univ. of Texas, Austin
