Barajas, Louis.
tr. by Hubert Valverde. U.S.: Grupo Nelson. 2007. 204p. ISBN 978-0-88113-222-9. pap. $16.99. BUSINESS

This book will certainly attract people interested in starting a small business. When he was a child, Barajas (El camino a la grandeza financiera; Rayo, 2004), a son of Mexican immigrants, helped his dad run his small, independent business. After going to college and working for a big accounting firm, Barajas decided to start his own company and give Hispanic immigrants advice on how to open and run a small business. This latest book explains in detail what it takes to own a business. It is targeted mainly toward immigrants who have very little, or nothing, to invest. The author starts by explaining why it is a good idea to start a business and how much physical and mental effort it takes. He then provides a five-step plan to starting a business, which includes advice on deciding on the right kind of business, creating a business plan, and running a small company. The book also contains useful appendixes that explain financial planning methods, as well as a list of resources. The author’s direct and friendly tone will appeal to readers of all backgrounds. Highly recommended for all bookstores and libraries.
