This is a clear, comprehensive, and sensitive guide through the painful and confusing process of deciding how to care for elderly parents. A registered nurse, eldercare specialist, and columnist whose works have been featured in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and Time and on National Public Radio, Mora Henry has worked with geriatric clients and their families for more than 35 years and cofounded Vista del Sol Health Care Services, an assisted living facility in Culver City, CA. Addressing both the emotional and the practical aspects of caring for elderly parents, Mora Henry considers the ten signs that your parents need attention, dealing with their denial, the shift in roles, the types of care assistance available, and legal and financial issues. Henry writes simply and clearly, illustrating her points with interesting stories and examples. The reader-friendly layout has many subheadings, short paragraphs, and bullet points. But it is Henry’s personal story of how she dealt with the care of her mother and father that makes an immediate impact on the reader; here is someone who has been through it and understands. This is an excellent introduction to a delicate and difficult problem facing many Latino families. Highly recommended for public, academic libraries, medical and health libraries and all bookstores.
