Four Spanish Publishers Announce Joint Venture

Four Spanish publishers—Ediciones Urano, Editorial Almuzara, Ediciones Obelisco, and Inédita—have joined forces to form a new mass market line, featuring an English-language name: Books4Pocket. The editors of this new joint venture plan to release 100 titles per year in mass market format, as the imprint name suggests, and will include popular fiction, romance, fantasy, self-help, business, and even YA titles.
Lucía Laratelli, president and director of sales and marketing for Urano Publishing, the U.S. distribution branch of Spain’s Ediciones Urano, explained to Críticas that these editions will be sized slightly larger than traditional mass market books, but smaller than typical trade paperbacks. Books4Pocket titles will be “moderately priced,” Laratelli said, given that Hispanic consumers are sensitive to prices. The mass market line was launched in Spain already; books will be available in the United States later this year.
