WebJunction Creates Scholarship for Spanish-language Outreach
by Aída Bardales -- Críticas, 3/15/2007
WebJunction announced a new scholarship for past participants in its Spanish Language Outreach (SLO) workshops. The winner will attend the Diversity and Outreach Fair during the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in Washington, DC, from June 21–27. The scholarship—which consists of conference fees, airfare, three hotel nights, meals, and materials for the presentation—will be awarded to a former SLO workshop participant who has successfully implemented an outreach project to Spanish speakers since attending the workshop. He or she will present a poster describing the outreach project at the Diversity and Outreach Fair on June 23 at the convention.
“The Diversity Fair is a powerful way for libraries to share information about their successful outreach projects,” WebJunction’s Spanish Language Outreach Program coordinator Laura Staley explained to Críticas. “Our goals for the scholarship are to both recognize the outreach efforts of our workshop participants and to inspire other libraries to reach out to their Spanish-speaking communities.”
WebJunction’s scholarship committee will select a winner based on the project or program’s demonstrated impact on the library’s Spanish-speaking community. The winner and ten finalist outreach projects will be featured as case studies on the WebJunction website. The deadline for application is April 9.
