Book Time Program Released in English and English-Spanish Versions

Scholastic announced September 18 the release of a research-based program that will help teachers develop the vocabulary and comprehension skills of children in their early years. Book Time methodology promotes three oral readings of each book, each focused on a specific reading skill: vocabulary, comprehension, and content area-knowledge/text awareness. Under the advice of Dr. Nell K. Duke, half of this program’s lessons are intended to focus on informational books that bring essential knowledge to the read-aloud time in the classroom. Book Time is available in English and English-Spanish PLUS versions. Each version includes 28 English-language titles (two copies of each), a Lending Library Chart, and a Teacher Guide with information about specific strategies for working with English language learners. The English Spanish PLUS version also includes 28 Spanish-language titles (two copies of each). The collection features both fiction and nonfiction texts with illustrations and photos.
