A Long Time Ago, In a Galaxy Far, Far Away…

By María E. Cruz -- Críticas, 2/15/2006

As evidenced by the perennial popularity of botanicas, stores that sell worship supplies used in Santería and other Afro-Caribbean religions, Latinos have traditionally been fans of all things New Age. A survey conducted by New Age Retailer magazine reveals that 23.4% of New Age store customers are Latino, a striking number given that Latinos make up 14% of the total U.S. population.

If you are looking to expand your New Age collection, Ramtha may be a way to go. Ramtha is the name of a 35,000-year-old spirit warrior who brings his message to the world through live audiences with an American woman called J.Z. Knight. Knight has transcribed the audiences, publishing several books with great success. The White Book, for example, became an instant New York Times best seller, selling more than 100,000 copies in six months. The topics of Knight’s texts include man’s purpose in life, how to heal others, twin souls, Jesus’s real mission on Earth, and the origins of creation.

In 2005, LD Books, a Miami-based distributor of books in Spanish, purchased Editorial Sin Límites (“Without Limits”), the exclusive Spanish-language publisher of Ramtha’s books. The publisher’s latest releases include El despertar de los dioses olvidados (Forgotten Gods Waking Up), which explores humanity’s divinity and the spiritual path to enlightenment; Conciencia, energía y realidad: OVNIS (UFOs and the Nature of Reality), an introduction to UFOs and where they come from; and ¿Quiénes somos? (Who Are We Really?), about Ramtha’s concept of consciousness and energy.

Ramtha has gained such popularity among New Agers that a school dedicated to promote the warrior’s teachings opened in 1988 in Washington. Sin Límites sold 15,000 copies of the Ramtha books during 2005, with Blanco (The White Book), Ese elixir llamado amor (The Elixir Called Love), and El libro azul (The Mystery of Birth and Death) among the most popular titles.
