New Directory Lends Coherence to U.S. Spanish Market
By Rebecca Miller -- Críticas, 3/1/2004
The bible of the English-language U.S. publishing market is the Literary Marketplace, or LMP, the first source for anyone looking to publish, sell, or buy books. Everyone interested in the industry turns to it, be they writers with manuscripts to shop or booksellers looking for information on an imprint. Until now, people working with books in Spanish have been without a solid equivalent. This June, Críticas will release Críticas: Spanish Language Publishing Marketplace Directory, the first single source for all information about the players in the U.S. Spanish-language book market.
In one volume, the directory will organize key data about national and international publishers, distributors and wholesalers, libraries, bookstores, media organizations and venues, trade fairs, and associations. In addition, the directory will list translators and literary agents working with Spanish-language books.
The project, a teaming of Críticas editors and Leylha Ahuile of Promo Latino, will create a coherent picture of the various segments of this market. The directory is a logical outgrowth of the steady solidification of the market in Spanish-language books in the United States.
