The Caribbean Publishers Network (CAPNET) holds its first international conference. The conference will be held on November 1-3 with a training workshop to follow immediately on November 5-7. The theme of the conference will be "Reclaiming Our Own Voices" and will feature publishing professionals from the Caribbean discussing ways in which works can be better translated, marketed, and distributed locally, regionally, and internationally.

This large outdoor festival features more than 250 authors and nearly 300 national and international booksellers and publishers. The fair features an International Congress of authors and a book sale and exhibition. Also look for eight days of literary events--which will feature such heavyweights as Mario Vargas Llosa, Laura Esquivel, Ernesto Quiñonez, Mayra Santos Febres, Carlos Monsiváis, and Silvana Paternostro, among others.

If you can only attend one book fair this year, this is the one to choose. Guadalajara is the fair for Spanish-language books.
